Just two weeks ago, we were stopped dead in our tracks, shocked to find that the entire Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection was stolen from a train in Paris. Scratching our heads, wondering, for one, how a scheme so large could be pulled off undetected and what that might mean for the future production of the actual purchasable collection. Now, our return to the office after a long weekend of snuggly Thanksgiving vacay times comes accompanied by the sharp reality of another unexpected jolt—the theft of more than $400,000 worth of Louis Vuitton merchandise from a Paris airport. The grand-scale burglary came by the hand of "five masked thieves" according to WWD.
While we would never dream of actually carrying out an actual holdup for the benefit of our wardrobes, these couture capers do have us thinking about from which epic collections we wouldn't mind trying to score a five-finger discount. Of course, if we were to really think about this strategically, we'd go for a Fall/Winter as opposed to the Spring/Summer variety (HELLO, think of the leathers and furs and silks and nomnomnom), but since those collections are already out, and the grandeur of that Marc Jacobs robbery is its at-the-moment one-of-a-kind exclusivity, here are our top five Spring/Summer 2012 collections worth plotting a heist for.
CHANEL

I meannn. The product of the genius mind and discerning hand of Karl Lagerfeld, which debuted with the unveiling of Florence Welch from a clam shell à la "The Birth of Venus," is kind of a no-brainer, to say the very least. With all its glitteringly feminine goodness juxtaposed with crisp tailoring and so much classic chic, the Chanel Spring 2012 collection is what we might call an investment heist. So long as no one realizes you, y'know, stole all this ish, these are pieces you can wear forever.

Revealed to a star-studded front row that included Taylor Swift, Elle and Dakota Fanning, and Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, the Rodarte Spring 2012 collection is rife with well-crafted and cleverly executed separates, interesting silhouettes, and highly covetable unique prints. Each piece is so special and thought out and versatile enough to be dressed up or down. Plus, it's one of the few collections to have shown some heavier pieces that might make it through the winter too.
MARA HOFFMAN

The Mara Hoffman Spring 2012 collection is a smattering of tribal prints, bold brights, the most deliciously indigenous-looking collar necklaces we've ever set eyes on. We just wish that while stealing the clothes and accessories we'd also be able to osmosis the ability to replicate that piled high Frida Kahlo 'do.

Talk about getting your money's worth (or effort's worth as the case may be). With stacks on stacks on stacks of high drama gown, DUH-RIPPING in metallic fringe, intricate beading and sequins, and tens of hundreds of yards of VOLUME, stealing the Marchesa Spring 2012 collection would be something like stealing a GANG of Renaissance art. Unless you have a grip of upcoming galas on your calendar or you live in Gossip Girl, you'll most likely be framing these things and lining your abode with them rather than wearing them.

OK, so this would be preeeetty hard to get away with, seeing as traipsing around in a metallic potato sack dress isn't exactly discreet. We'd never wish ill on our pal Jeremy Scott, but we just harbor so much deep-deep-seated WANT for his Spring 2012 collection that we can't help but daydream about rolling around in all of it. #sorrywerenotsorry
